Hengissä ollaan, viime viikolla oltiin vaan niin paljon menossa, että polkkaaminen jäi vähemmälle. Ja oikeastaan asiaa on nyt vasta :)
I'm alive, we just had a very busy week and I just didn't time to knit and thus had nothing to post, either. Now, I do.

Viime viikolla työn alla oli koirantakki:
Last week, I worked on this dog sweater:



Laitan kaksi kuvaa takista, kun minusta tuossa toisessa näkyy paremmin mallineule ja toinen on vaan muuten onnistuneempi otos (ehkä).
There are two pics, since I think the other one shows the stitch pattern better and the other one is just a better pic (maybe).

Koiran takki
Koko: Keskikokoiselle koiralle (saaja on espanjanvesikoira).
Lanka: Novita Nalle, noin 200 g.
Puikot: 3 mm bambu.
Malli: Omasta päästä.

Dog Sweater
Size: For midsize dog (I knitted this for a Spanish Water Dog)
Yarn: Novita Nalle (150 g/5.3 oz = 390 m/433 yds), roughly 200 g (7 oz).
Needles: 3 mm bamboo.
Pattern: My own.

Takin tarina on seuraava: ystävälläni V:llä on kaksi keskikokoista koiraa, jotka nukkuvat ison omakotitalon alakerrassa. Paikalliset omakotitalot voivat olla todella kylmiä öisin, ja varsinkin talvella aktiiviset, kilpailevat koirat, joiden karva on leikattu lyhyeksi, tarvitsevat lisälämpöä. Olimme Karviksen kanssa syömässä V:n luona keväällä, ja minulla varalta tietenkin kutimet mukana, kun V pyysi minua tekemään takit koirille. Kyselin vähän takkien speksejä, ja kun toiveena oli, että takit olisivat konepestäviä ja suhteellisen ohuita, kaivoin Nalle-takin alun veskasta ja kysyin, olisiko se sopiva materiaali. Kun Nalle V:lle kelpasi, nakitin hänet ostamaan keväisellä Suomen-matkallaan 4 kerää Nallea mukaansa, ja sain langat siis jo kuukausia sitten. Onneksi näitä ei tarvittu heti, eikä näillä vieläkään ole kiire, sillä koirat tarvinnevat näitä aikaisintaan parin kuukauden päästä.

The story behind the sweater is interesting: my friend V has two active agility dogs, and they sleep downstairs of a very big house. The house gets very cold at night in the winter, and these dogs - having their hair cut short - need extra cover in the winter. We were invited for a dinner at V's house a while ago, and she started talking about sweaters for her dogs, since she didn't have proper sweaters for them. She wanted the material to be mashine-washable and not too thick, and me, having my needles and the back of the turquoise jacket in my purse (just in case), I dug the project up and showed her the texture of the jacket. She thought it proper for the sweaters, and I asked her to buy the yarn when she went to Finland, which she did.

Tein tämän toisen takin pienemmälle koiralle ensin, jotta voin sitten muokata sitä isommalle koiralle sopivaksi. Vaikka mitat onkin jo otettu, täytyy istuvuus testata, ja pääsen siihen (ja kuviin takista koiran päällä) vasta myöhemmin tällä viikolla. Takki sinänsä aiheutti hieman päänvaivaa tuon rinnan ja tassunaukkojen kohdalla. Mietin pääni puhki miten sen toteuttaisin, kunnes yksi ilta juuri ennen nukkumaanmenoa välähti, että kyseessähän on tietenkin valtava kantapää! :) Kantapään käännöksessä olen kääntänyt vain muutaman kierroksen osalta ja jättänyt loput silmukat tassunaukkoja varten. Mallineule takissa on simppeli, vain 6 krs korkea ja 5 s leveä. Se on nopea neuloa ja joustaa runsaasti, joten takin pitäisi istua hyvin.

I knitted this first jacket for the smaller of the two dogs. After seeing how this fits, I'll make the adjustments for the bigger dog. The front of the sweater was a bit of a problem, until one night it occurred to me that it actually is a giant turned heel. I am quite happy with the front now, and this nice, simple stitch pattern of only 6 rows and 5 stitches in rather flexible and the sweater should fit the dog quite alright. I'll post some pics of the sweater on the dog later.

Saaja toivoi, että takissa ei olisi mitään kiinnityssysteemejä, vaan sen voisi vetää helposti päälle. Jotenkin takki täytyi saada pysymään paikoillaan myös takaosastaan (etuosassahan on tassunaukot), ja häntälenkkiä ei V halunnut, joten päädyin neulomaan kaksi irrallista 30 cm:n pätkää I-cordia, jotka ompelin takin "helmaan". I-cordin sisään tulee kuminauha, josta takajalka pujotetaan. I-cord ei kauheasti jousta, enkä halunnut tehdä pitkää nauhaa, joka saattaisi painaa sisäreiteen ikävästi, joten i-cordit eivät ole suljettuja. Kun lenkkiä siis venyttää, kumppari venyy ja tulee esiin nauhan sisältä, mutta kun lenkki on paikoillaan, kumppari palautuu ja vetäytyy samalla nauhan sisälle piiloon. Lisäksi kumppari on helppo vaihtaa jos se menee rikki, samoin pituutta on helppo säätää. Muita kiinnitysjuttuja takissa ei ole.

V said she didn't want any zippers or buttons in the sweater. She wanted it to be kind of a pullover, but something was required to hold the sweater in place in the back. I knitted two i-cords which I attached to the edge, and within the i-cords I will put an elastic. The i-cord is not that flexible, but the elastic is, and thus the ends of the i-cord are not sewn together, but left open. When you pull the i-cord to put the dogs hindleg through it, the elastic stretches out of the i-cord, but when the sweater is in place, the elastic is invisible as it is hidden in the i-cord. The length of the elastic is also easy to change, and also the elastic itself is easily replaceable, should it break.

Takki on kuvassa pingottamatta. Pingotettaessa se venyy leveyssuunnassa vielä hieman, joten vaikka se nyt näyttää mäyräkoirantakilta, kuva valehtelee. Otan kuvia pingotetusta takista ja kun takki on koiran päällä myöhemmin.

I haven't blocked the sweater yet, so it looks like a doxie sweater now. It will stretch a bit when blocked and it should look normal after blocking. I hope I will be able to show you pics of the finished sweater on the dog in a few days.

Viime viikolla reissattiin ja touhuttiin kaikenlaista. Sunnuntaina pyyhkäistiin Catalinan saarelle juhlimaan naapurimme ja ystävämme Sonjan synttäreitä. Catalinaan matkustaa 1,5 tuntia laivalla rannikolta; meillä matkoihin meni reilu kolme tuntia suuntaansa. Naapurien blogiin tulee varmaan kuvia jossain vaiheessa, meidän kamerasta ei löytynyt kuin kuvaajan (=allek.) taidetta ilman aivoja. Matkamuistoja emme kauheasti rohmunneet, mutta löysin sentään nämä:

Last week we were quite busy. For example, on Sunday, we went to celebrate our friend Sonja's birthday on Catalina Island. Our neighbors probably have better pics in their camera, I only found my very amateur pics in ours. Check their blog for pics later. We didn't buy that much souvenirs, but I did find these:



En yksinkertaisesti kyennyt jättämään näitä kauppaan. Kun olivat niin suloisia, ja vielä neulojalle sopivalla teemalla :) (ja sain alennustakin..!)
I just couldn't leave these in the store. They were so cute, and so appropriate for a knitter :) (And I got a discount...!)

Koiran takki pääsi puikoilta eilen, ja vaikka pakollisten töiden lista vaan kasvaa, en silti voinut hillitä itseäni enää kauempaa:
